LifeStraw has released the Sip Essential, a reusable BPA-free water-filter straw weighing 0.7 oz. It uses a 0.2-micron membrane microfilter and needs no battery or external power.
Membrane filter and limits
LifeStraw rates the non-replaceable filter for up to 1,000 liters. The brand states that it removes 99.999999% of bacteria, 99.999% of parasites and 99.999% of microplastics, as well as silt, sand and cloudiness.
LifeStraw says the product meets US EPA and NSF P231 standards for bacteria and parasite removal. Those claims do not mean the straw treats seawater, dissolved salts, chemicals or every possible contaminant.

Price and release
LifeStraw announced the Sip Essential on March 31, 2026. Its official US product page listed the straw at US$19.95 on September 5. The filtration figures above are manufacturer claims; Outdoor Forth has not independently tested the product.
